During your stay at
Vielle Saint Girons campsite
, don’t hesitate to visit the leading tourist site in Les Landes. Labenne Zoo welcomes over 70,000 visitors each year. In a protected natural setting of 5 hectares, you can get closer to over 200 animals from 60 species.

History and Values of Labenne Zoo

Benefiting from an exceptional location, this zoo is situated in the heart of the Landes forest, just a few steps from the beach. Initially named
Parc Animalier de Labenne
, it was created in 1998 by Philippe de Parédès.

In 2012, it was taken over by Véronique Darrieulat and Damien Carles. Upon acquisition, they introduced new species (wolves, cranes, etc.), added unique areas (lemur island, aquatic bird aviary, etc.), and various activities. The owners’ main goal is to create an environment close to the animals’ natural habitat. Among them, you will mainly find mammals, reptiles, and birds. They are all pampered summer and winter. Their diet and ambient temperature are adapted to the specific needs of each species.

A complete team works in collaboration with this very dedicated couple (animal keepers, veterinarians, educational team to write workshop materials, etc.).

Experience Unique Moments at Labenne Zoo

During your visit to Labenne Zoo, you can have exceptional experiences that allow you to get up close to the animal world.

Thus, adults and children over 6 years old can step into the shoes of an animal keeper for 3 hours. A guide will introduce you to the different species and their specific characteristics.

You will also participate in the preparation of food rations for the zoo’s animals. Then, you will proceed with the cleaning and feeding of certain animals (raccoons, turtles, guinea pigs, lemurs, wolves, parrots, goats, etc.). At the end of the activity, you will know everything there is to know about the zoological park and its operation.

To forge a real bond with the animals, the zoo offers the possibility to sponsor your favorite species. By making this choice, you participate in the preservation of biodiversity and the improvement of these creatures’ living conditions. There are different types of sponsors (protector, conservator, rescuer, etc.). Donations range from €20 to over €1,000 depending on the chosen package. Each offers certain benefits to the donor.
