Located in the Landes, the Labenne Reptilarium offers you a unique and impressive visit and activities. Thanks to its three worlds that immerse you in a cold, calm, and sometimes unpredictable environment, you will discover one of the largest collections of live reptiles. Both adults and children are sure to be thrilled. So, whether you are a boa and crocodile enthusiast or simply curious about nature, don’t miss this essential tourist site during your stay at Camping La Jaougotte.

History of the Labenne Reptilarium

It is first and foremost a family story. Indeed, the passion for animals has been present for 5 generations in the founders’ lineage. It began with reptile collections that the parents strived to enrich and introduce to the general public by traveling all over Europe. Subsequently, they worked at the Buffalo circus. And in 1962, they founded the zoological park of Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse. As an anecdote, the mother, who was then breastfeeding her youngest, had also done so for a lion cub.

Finally, in the year 2000, the adventure began in Labenne with the Reptilarium. It occupies an area of 1,600 m2 and houses over 150 species. Its creators advocate for animal protection and ensure it becomes a value among young visitors. The teams are qualified and can train in handling snakes and other lizards. The space therefore guarantees you a safe visit.

Reptilarium Visit and Activities

The Reptilarium offers you three different worlds during your visit.

First, there is Iguana Park, an open space without glass or bars separating you from the lizards that roam semi-freely. Next, you can enter the Alligator Greenhouse. Some of them are over three meters long. This area also features about twenty species of spectacled caimans and Nile crocodiles. Finally, you will be impressed by The Great Predators , which you can admire in complete safety. Before you, you will find different varieties of pythons, boas, anacondas, alligator snapping turtles…

Also, know that the site offers you the opportunity to become a keeper for a day. You will then, among other things, clean the terrariums and feed the snakes and other herbivorous and carnivorous animals.
