Later, MIACA developed the marina, evolving the original fishing port. The current <g id=\"gid_2\">five basins<\/g> of Capbreton port were built between 1973 and 1991. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, <g id=\"gid_3\">Capbreton is intimately linked to seawater and fishing<\/g>. The town drew its prosperity from distant whale and cod fishing. Furthermore, the inhabitants excelled in <strong>fish preservation and drying activities.<\/strong>       <\/p>\n<h2>The Importance of Fishing in Capbreton Port<\/h2>\n<p>Alongside recreational boating, <strong>fishing is the main economic activity<\/strong> of the town. Capbreton&#8217;s professional fishermen have a fleet of 19 boats with which they practice artisanal fishing using nets, bottom trawls, etc. The boats (trawlers, purse seiners, etc.) are between 9 m and 15 m long.
